Rahni chats with us about How The Vagus Nerve is imperative in the optimisation of our health.
The vagus nerve is a really fundamental part of our autonomic nervous system, which is composed of two key branches - Parasympathetic (which allows us to rest, relax, digest and recharge and the Sympathetic - responsible for our stress response and survival by controlling functions such as heart rate, blood sugar and the hormone cortisol that enables us to escape threats.
The vagus nerve is the parasympathetic nervous system's primary nerve which travels from our brain stem into a large number of organs and tissues such as the gut, lungs and heart. A healthy parasympathetic nerve response is vital for our mental wellbeing and physical health. However due to the pressures of modern life and chronic stress many of us are constantly in a physiological "fight or flight" mode. It's this stress that is a fundamental driver of many of today's chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and irritable bowel disease.
Listen in as we chat about key ways to support a healthy vagus nerve function.
